Now S Mark Gubb Union Usher Gallery, Lindum Road, Lincoln, LN2 1NN The Lincoln Art programme has commissioned Cardiff based artist S Mark Gubb in collaboration with the Usher gallery to develop a series of flags which will fly atop the building this autumn. The hoisting and flying of Gubb’s flags represents a symbolic act of new beginnings as the Usher gallery re-opens following a recent redevelopment to it site. Titled Union, S Mark Gubb has used the project as an opportunity to explore the history and representation of national identity within the Union Jack flag. Gubb will use each of the Usher gallery’s flagpoles to hoist an alternative historical variation on the standard Union flag design, collectively depicting the flags historical struggle in representing its own identity and power. Union will launch with a unique flag raising ceremony, in the Usher Grounds, on Saturday 25th September. S Mark Gubb is represented by Ceri Hand Gallery, Liverpool. Recent projects include: My Empire of Dirt, Ceri Hand, Liverpool; Here today gone tomorrow, The City Gallery, Leicester; The Death of Peter Fletcher, The ICA, London; Future 50, Axis at Project Space, Leeds. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Townley and Bradby Residency Collaborative duo Anna Townley and Lawrence Bradby have been invited to Lincoln to undertake a week long production residency in the city. The residency will be hosted in a unique location in the city giving Townley and Bradby the opportunity to explore the structure of a site based residency and how this will impact on the work they produce. Through out the residency there will be opportunities to engage and participate in activities the artists produce, cumulating to a final event towards the end of the week.
